Beautiful

"ECOTONOHA IS A PROJECT - TO NURTURE A VIRTUAL TREE COLLABORATIVELY, AND AT THE SAME TIME CONTRIBUTE TO THE ACTUAL ENVIRONMENT TO COPE WITH GLOBAL WARMING. AS YOU MAKE ECOTONOHA'S LEAVES, THE VIRTUAL TREE WILL GROW, AND AS ECOTONOHA GROWS, REAL TREES WILL BE PLANTED BY NEC."

Ecotonoha is a made-up word which consists of "eco" from ecology and the ancient Japanese term "kotonoha" which means word. This website is a project started in 2004 by NEC to plant trees on Australia's Kangaroo Island.

When you visit the site and leave a message on a leaf of the virtual tree, you help plant a tree. 100 messages = 1 tree NEC plants. Beautiful.

Humans VS Robots

I know you've been waiting with baited breathe for my reappearance in the blogosphere. And to celebrate my triumphant return, today we feature 2 of my favorite videos on YouTube.com both featuring some of the most amazing dancers EVER. Yeah. I said it.

Humans

Robots

Shinji-San in the Land of Indeterminate Duration

A friend introduced me to this early Flash cartoon based on Buddhist principals. It was made in 1999. How far we've come from this primitive style! Still... every now and then I need to go back and watch. The story is bizarre (but you must have noticed I like that kind of thing by now). The soundtrack is really great, too.

My slug is my very best friend.

Nosepilot was one of the first Flash cartoons I ever saw. This breathtaking 7 minute piece may have been crafted when the art of Flash was still young, but it's still an impressive and entertaining diversion. You'll be humming the music for the rest of the day.

PS - Blogger post scheduling, I hate you. You never work right.

Ninja Week - The Little Ninja

Ninjai: The Little Ninja has to be one of the most beautifully animated Flash series of all time. Follow the travels of a boy ninja as he tries to discover his identity. Engaging, compelling story complimented by artful scenery. Must view! Make sure you start at the beginning or you'll be totally lost.

Another classic for you today - Napster Bad!, a Flash cartoon by Bob Cesca. It's been nearly 7 years since Napster first reared its glorious head, giving rise to a new industry called 'peer-to-peer file exchange' (known more commonly as 'steal that sh*t back from the man').

Let's start 2007 off right by looking into our own past and see what can be learned, shall we? Get yourself and your hairy-stomached mom some popcorn, sit back and watch.

Coff-ay and Fudge Stripe Cook-ays.

One of my favorite Flash cartoons of all time is OddTodd. This web classic really hit home for me as it came out when most of my friends were going through the Seattle DotBomb and hence lost their cushy IT jobs. Oh yeah - and the main character bears a striking resemblance to my friend Kris.

Every time I go through a period of unemployment (always voluntary, of course) I watch this.

At Work Soundtrack

So I've been totally hooked on this Live365 radio station called EthnoTechno. I love it! It's like when you get a new CD and it never leaves your stereo. EthnoTechno is ethnic-inspired downtempo which focuses mostly on South Asian sounds blended with electronic music and slow beats. You'll occasionally hear something middle eastern or far eastern inspired. You can find the radio station at

Try it! It's delicious.

My Favorite WebToon

Um... so if you haven't ever been to Homestarrunner.com, you've really been missing out. This has to be one of the best-loved websites of all time. I've been watching the antics of Strong Bad, Strong Sad, Strong Mad, Coach Z, the Poopsmith and of course (my favorite) Homestar for years now. If you've never seen it, drop what your doing and watch some SB Emails. Now.

And yeah... I'm not usually into merchandising and stuff... but I not only do I have a Homestar keychain, but also a rad stuffed The Cheat that makes noises when you punch him. That's right. Drool.
